Q. Why are BC wines so good?
A. Ah, good question because it wasn’t always that way. Thirty years ago BC wines were cheap, sweet and well, generally nasty. With free trade in the air, wine growers could not get government subsidies so they were forced into competing with wines from around the world. They had to make better wines or get out of the game.
They found out that they could make outstanding wines; they just needed to find the right type of grapes and the perfect soil and climate to grow outstanding grapes. They did! And along with new equipment, knowledge and a new breed of talented winemakers it wasn’t long before BC wines improved tremendously.
